Head Torches

By

If you are a scuba diving professional or a cave adventure enthusiast, then head torches are certainly must-have equipments. They are useful lighting devices that are commonly worn around the head. They aim to provide excellent illumination without the need of using your heads. Since their introduction during the early 1970's, head torches have come a long way in terms of functionality and convenience. Newer models now carry even more efficient features that make them the perfect outdoor companions.  The best thing about the head torch equipment is that you get to increase the number of activities you can do. Most especially when delving into caves and underwater explorations, since both of your hands are free while the light is directed automatically to where you are looking at. The introduction of LED lights gave rise to more efficient head torchlight. A led head torch is much smaller, brighter and most of all very efficient.

There is no question that head torches serve valuable functions in a variety of outdoor activities. In fact, many people have already enjoyed the benefits of this innovative lighting device. Cavers, miners, trail runners and electricians are just some of the few professionals who have been reaping the advantages of dependable head torches. Today, they come in a wide spectrum of features, types, and designs to help meet each consumer's particular needs.

Some of the common types of head torches available in the market are as follows:

  • LED head torches - They are commonly used by people who indulge in close-up work that requires high level of illumination. As compared to halogen lamps, they offer brighter light that is suitable for close-up or mid range work.
  • High-power and Long Range head torches – As their name imply, they are specifically optimized for long range illumination that can reach up to 63 meters.
  • Emergency use head torches – These are smaller, lighter models of head torches which can be carried around with ease hence eliminating extra weight but are readily available when the need arises.
  • All-around head torches – They provide the best illumination in practically all types of conditions. They also come in combination models that offer both the benefits of LED lights for short-range illumination, as well as the halogen lights for long-range illumination.

Like any other gear, it is critical to pay attention to vital factors when buying head torches. It is of the essence that you select a head torch that best address your needs. One major concern that you should address is the head torch's portability. Since you will be wearing it on your head, it would be ideal to find light-weight and comfortable head torches that can be securely worn with ease. Therefore, newer models of head torches that use various types of battery configurations will be an excellent choice.

Another consideration is the type of bulb used. Knowing the type of light source used is important to ensure that proper illumination would be provided. You can either choose from a filament or LED bulb. The type of bulb needed would be dependent on the task you need to do. However, you would get more benefits if you invest on multi-purpose types of head torches.

Battery-operated torches offer two ways of battery installation. You can either store them inside the actual torch unit creating a more light-weight and compact system, or on the pack available at the back of the head for a more stable torch light.  Some even offer separate remote battery packs to place the torch's batteries. Although they are considered as the largest and heaviest form of battery-operated head torches, they greatly reduce the weight on the head making it more convenient for you to carry the head light.

Head torches have to be the handiest thing, especially for camping. The advent of LED bulbs has really improved and lightened them. A nice change from the old battery operated ones.
