Keyless Entry

A while back, there was this commercial with actor Lee Majors which talked about biometrics. The commercial was showing viewer’s how biometrics was being used to enter their computer. There was no need to enter a password anymore because all one has to do is swipe their finger over a fingerprint reader. Since everyone fingerprint is unique, no one else can enter another’s laptop computer anymore. This is not a new way of securing private property. Biometrics has been used in office buildings and individual offices for years now. This same method for securing offices and computers is now being used for today’s for homes and cars. Biometrics is not something for the business or private sector anymore. Today, keyless entry is more affordable and within anyone, especially home and car owners.

For a more in depth look at keyless entry, here is how it works, where it can be installed and who can use it. This form of security has been around since the 1950’s. It might be hard to believe, but in the 1950’s, garage doors were being opened and closed with the push of a button. This means a homeowner did not have to get out of their car to open their garage door anymore. This door opener was used more for convenience than a security purpose. As time went by, security became more of an issue and garage door openers had to change as well. This is when something called a DIP switch was added to garage door openers. To prevent anyone from opening a garage door, each door opener had to have their own code. These switches allowed homeowners to set their own code to their particular door opener. This method of remote keyless entry security is still being used today for garage door openers.

In today’s ever increasing world of crime and theft, this remote keyless entry system has advanced. This form of entry is being added to almost any vehicle on the market. An individual can enter their car with an actual key, for a hands free convenience. This is an excellent product to have if the car owner has small children or is carrying too many packages. There are some vehicles which, with the press of a button will even start the engine and air conditioner. It is amazing how far technology has taken us since the 1950’s. The best thing about using keyless entry is, a home or car owner does not have to worry about using a key. Some vehicles do not even need a key to start the car anymore. This is another added security measure which is also used for homes.

Since a key can be easily lost or stolen, any homeowner can look at, purchase and have a keyless entry systems pad installed on their home. This form of security can be used for allowing family, friends and guests into the home. There is no need to make another key, then ask for it back. With a security pad like this, homeowners with children no longer have to make another key. All they have to do is give their child a code to enter their home. This type of entry into a home can temporarily be given to family members, friends or guests for entrance into their home.

Finally, a keyless entry pad is affordable. There are some pads which start as low as $599. In fact, the homeowner can open their front door with the same type of remote access button many vehicles use today. When a homeowner hears their front door click that means the front door is open. It is just amazing how our society is becoming more and more keyless and wireless. This is security and convenience all at once.
