Riders of motorcycles and dirt bikes understand the importance of using the proper safety gear when riding. Safety gear is important to protect you from many injuries that can be occurring from riding either of these types of bikes. Safety gear is not inexpensive; however it is much cheaper than having a broken bone and needing hospitalization. Many riders would agree that the proper safety gear to wear includes the proper helmet, goggles or some kind of eye protection, motorcycle pants, motorcycle boots, gloves, and a long sleeved shirt. Many riders also prefer to wear jackets when the weather is permitted. Chest protectors are another great idea for protection when riding any type of motorcycle or dirt bike. Being properly protected will help insure many fun rides now, and in the future.

Textile Motorcycle Pants

While most riders say that the helmet is the number one safety gear to wear, many say that motorcycle riding pants are just as important. These pants are made of sturdy cotton and polyester blends. They are tear and stain resistant. Most pants have leather material on the inside thigh area of the pants. This helps to protect your leg from bruising and burning on your bike. Many also have extra padding on the rear end side to help protect against bruising and become uncomfortable when riding. Many styles of motorcycle pant legs are boot cut to fit over your riding boot, and some have zippers as well. The zippers help you place your pant leg over your boots after putting them on. Many styles of these pants can now also be turned into shorts by unzipping the legs.

There are many different makers of leather motorcycle pants. And they come in a wide range of colors and styles. Many can be bought with matching long sleeved shirts, as are often seen being worn by dirt bike riders. Since each maker makes their pants differently, you should always try a pair on before you buy them. They are typically sized the same as you find your jeans, however many times people realize they can wear this type of pants a size or two smaller than they normally do. When riding you want to make sure that your pants are fit properly. You do not want them too loose, as this will cause problems with air flow and potentially getting into different areas of your engine.

Before purchasing, you should make sure that you have the exact pair you want. Typically at the beginning of the riding season for your area, safety gear will cost more. If you can, try to wait until the end of your area's typical riding season to purchase safety gear. This does not mean you should ride without gear. It means that often times you can save money by purchasing the styles from the last season. This is a great way to pick up your motorcycle rain pants for those long trips.

Prices for this type of safety gear vary. You can typically buy the previous season's styles for under a hundred dollars. Typically, the current season's gear ranges from $100 to $160. If you are looking for popular brand named items such as Thor or Fox, you will probably spend even more. Motorcycle pants can be purchased at any motorcycle, dirt bike, or atv dealer. Many times you can get discounts for buying a whole set of gear, when purchased at the same time.
